Workshop with Ida Schuften Juhl // Námskeið með Ida Schuften Juhl

Computer music for beginners and friends
Exploration of tools to create music with a computer

This workshop will be focusing on giving that push to get started with computer music in a supportive environment. The goal is to boost our confidence and get familiar with some tools to create the sound and music we want. Only requirement will be to bring a laptop and download ablation’s free trial prior to the workshop. If you don’t have a laptop, come anyway and we’ll figure something out.

This workshop serves two purposes:

1. to assist people who are interested in creating computer music with getting started, and
2. to create a space where people can meet and share tips, tricks and knowledge from their own music creation. You may simply be looking for some new ears on a project, searching for a new partner in co-lab crime, creative inspiration or feeling up for assisting others in getting started with computer music.

I’d like to go over a ‘base-pack’ of open source tools in order to make music creation accessible to anyone with access to a computer. If you’ve already bought a program to use for your music making, but feel unsure of where to begin, we’ll crack that barrier too.

All ages and all levels of experience are very welcome.
If you have a computer/laptop, bring it, and if you don’t, come anyway!

Level: beginner
Language: English. Translators available on request.
Software used: Mainly Ableton Live

RASK is a collective of young Icelandic artists that work at the intersection of art and technology. Our objectives include working towards accessibility of technology and creative spaces for interdisciplinary collaborations. We wish to strengthen the diversity within the Icelandic electronics art scene. The RASK Electronic Arts workshop is a step towards welcoming new voices into the scene, but for women and minorities in particular. We consider the making of a supportive and inclusive learning environment a step towards a more diverse environment within technology and art.
