Vala Sigþrúðar Jónsdóttir

(IS)

Vala Sigþrúðar Jónsdóttir (b. 1993) lives and works in Reykjavík. In her art, she wonders what we count as natural and if manmade technology can in any way show what we call nature through images and text. Vala also seeks to explore the connection and the boundaries between crafts, technology and organic things, because she believes such speculations will open up a chance to create a better relationship between man and nature.

Vala graduated BA from Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2018. At present, she studies post-grad at the art teaching department at the Iceland University of the Arts and has taught at the children’s and the textile departments of The Reykjavík School of Visual Arts in recent years. Among the most recent exhibitions she has participated in are The Wheel – art in public spaces, organised by The Icelandic Sculptors’ Society and the City of Reykjavík; Re-fresh – a duo exhibition in Harbinger with Sindri Leifsson, and Go! – group exhibition in The Nordic House, curated by Agnes Ársælsdóttir and Anna Andrea Winther.
