Following her operating mode of material spiritualism, the earthy colour palette comes from a mixture using binding agents and various wild clays acquired while travelling in remote regions. In September 2023 the artist travelled across Iceland in search of clay and ash. Using her hands and different tools on the wet clay, the resulting series of drawings and paintings are inspired by the volcanic landscape, energy portals, legends and myths, and spiritual encounters, rhythmically composed using the material of clay.
Monika Czyżyk (b. 1989) is a visual artist based in Helsinki. She works primarily with the moving image in the context of experimental documentaries and socially engaged projects. Her ongoing body of work expands upon a form of techno-sublime aesthetics, exploring human and non-human scales, sonic disruptions, impossible landscapes, and ungraspable truths.
