The Mind

28.03.2024

The Mind is about the phenomenon mind. The mind doesn’t have a shape, and we don’t know if it is inside us our if it is a part of the universe. Conscience is also a complicated phenomenon and we work with that as well. It is not about a relationship between two persons. It is more the relationship of a person with her/himself and with society in general. The idea of the performance came about as Marcia and me were talking in a cafe downtown on Leblon in Rio where she comes from we came up with this idea of a play/performance/concert idea where The Mind would be “illustrated” or “clarified”. The mind can be anything. It can be a wind in the air. It can be words appearing in the room with a video projection, it can be shown in a conversation. It can be talked about in a scientific way. In the play we can jump from 1st to 3rd to 2nd person and so forth. We blend things from Theater and visual arts and music and ideas that we have heard or read in books etc.

During Sequnces Egill Sæbjörnsson´s solo exhibition Spirit of place and narrative, will take place at Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús, with The Mind performed specifically for Sequences 2009.

Egill Sæbjörnsson is Icelandic artist based in Berlin. His art is an unusual fusion of music, sound, video and installations in addition to which he often appears himself as part of his exhibition projects. From the start of his career he has handled different media and expressive idioms with remarkable facility. Egill has used video, sound and sculptural installations to create a sort of cabaret in the gallery with cut-out figures and artworks that speak and sing and even interact.
