Hildur Bjarnadóttir

(IS)

Hildur Bjarnadóttir (f. 1969) býr og starfar í Flóahreppi á Suðurlandi. Í verkum sínum skoðar hún sambýli manna, dýra og plantna. Innsetningar hennar snúast um hið flókna net manngerðra og náttúrulegra þátta sem fyrirfinnast í vistkerfi staða. Hildur notar ýmsar aðferðir og efnivið í verkum sínum; ull, hörþráð, silki, plöntulitarefni, hljóð, ljósmyndir og vefnað.

Verkið Wool Project varð til í Brooklyn í New York árið 1996. (HB)

Hildur Bjarnadóttir (b. 1969) lives and works in Flóahreppur, South Iceland. In her work she examines the cohabitation between humans, animals and plants. Her installation revolves around the complex network of human-made and natural factors that exist in these ecosystems. Hildur employs various methods and materials in her practice including wool, linen, silk, plant dyes, sound, photography and weaving.

The work Wool Project was created in Brooklyn, New York in 1996. Hildur utilized a public laundromat to wash and dry wool clothing that was purchased at a Red Cross store, where she washed and dried the clothing repeatedly on the highest temperature setting. The wool fibres responded to the heat and friction of the washer and dryer by shrinking and tightening together. After many rounds of this process, the clothing was reduced to only fragments of their original size. (HB)
