Thank you for a wonderful Sequences XII!

This past October, Sequences XII filled Reykjavík with ten days of exhibitions, performances, and encounters across the city. While most of the festival program has now come to an end, Sediment and Signal at the Nordic House remains on view until December 14. We encourage visitors to take the time to experience the exhibition in its intended spirit of calm and quiet attention.

The Sequences team extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us, supported us, and contributed to making this edition a shared moment of reflection, conversation, and slowness.

This year’s edition, curated by Daria Sól Andrews, invited audiences to pause and experience art as a space of collective focus. Under the theme Pása / Pause, Sequences XII unfolded across The Living Art Museum, Kling & Bang at Marshallhúsið, the Nordic House, the House of Collections, Ásmundarsalur, and additional locations throughout Reykjavík — transforming the city into a landscape of embodied contemplation.

More than 40 artists from six countries took part in the biennale. Many artists presented new works and site-specific projects, including Sigurður Guðjónsson, Ragna Róbertsdóttir, Pétur Thomsen, Thomas Pausz, and Fischersund.

The festival also featured works by internationally recognised artists such as Rhoda Ting and Mikkel Bojesen, WAUHAUS, Sasha Huber, Sheida Soleimani, and Santiago Mostyn.

Among the highlights of the festival were a series of performances and participatory works:
I’m a Heart Beating in This World at Hvammsvík by Maija Mustonen and Hrefna Lind Lárusdóttir, in collaboration with their team, guiding guests through a meditative floating experience;
MASA, a food-based performance by Hugo Llanes and Catherine Rivadeneyra at the House of Collections, where the edible became poetic; and Skör, a new dance work by Rósa Ómarsdóttir at the Nordic House, offering a space for physical focus and presence.

The program also included workshops, artist talks, and additional performances, such as Tacet: Extrinsic by Hildur Elísu Jónsdóttir, Lullaby Nest by Petri Saariko and Sasha Huber, and new works by Lucky 3 and Adam Buffington in collaboration with Nýlókórinn.

We are deeply grateful to all participating artists, to our curator, and to our audiences for shaping this year’s conversation on slowness, care, and attention.

Warm thanks as well to our exhibition venues — the Nordic House, National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavík Art Museum, Ásmundarsalur, and Hvammsvík Nature Baths — and to our many partners and supporters, including Fischersund, Hotel Holt, Hopp, Grugg og Makk, Himbrimi, Inga Elín, Dóttir Skin, Omnom, and La Poblana, whose generosity made this edition possible.

We also extend our appreciation to Finn Partners Communications for their collaboration on international press outreach, and to everyone who helped share Sequences with the world.
