Writing workshop: Biswamit Dwibedy

This creative writing workshop, part of the Sequences Festival, invites us to respond to art not with haste, but with care and curiosity. Through the practice of ekphrasis—writing in dialogue with visual art—we’ll explore new ways of seeing, new forms of expression, and voices that reach beyond the self. Together, we’ll take our time: to play with language, to think about art through writing, and to shape our words with patience, attention, and pleasure. We will write in response to the many artworks we encounter during the festival and then share our work with others over this two-day workshop, which will conclude with a public reading.

Professor Biswamit Dwibedy (b. Odisha, India) teaches in the Department of Comparative Literature and English and joined The American University of Paris in 2019. Biswamit Dwibedy will lead a creative writing workshop to explore poetic strategies, language as material, and writing as a form of artistic thinking. Participants will use the practice of ekphrasis – writing in dialogue with visual art – to explore new ways of seeing, new forms of expression, and voices that reach beyond the self.
