Pushing Time

Ísleifsdóttir was born in 1982, Reykjavik, where she is currently based. She studied at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and in 2010 she graduated with an MFA in Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art. She has collaborated together with Czech artist Monika Fryčová as the performance duo Directrix and together with Scottish artist Calvin Laing as the duo Calvin and Eva.

Contemporary symbols and historic icons find their way into Ísleifsdóttir’s practice, and she likes to throw into confusion established meanings and values in culture. Her work is often performative, where the normal and irrelevant becomes loaded with new significance. Her new work is a symbolic gesture, a performative pun, inspired by, and aimed at, the real time connotation of the art festival.
